Dr. Georgios Matsos works as legal counsel of domestic and international enterprises, advising mainly in the fields of Tax Law and Corporate Law. His academic and practical expertise includes Accounting Law (mainly the area of International Accounting Standards - IAS), as well as International Tax Law. Also, he has rich professional experience in Public Law matters, such as Government Contracts, Public Procurement and Administrative Law.

Since 2010, Dr. Matsos lectures domestic and international tax law at the Law School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Since 2013, he serves as Visiting Professor at the english-speaking International Hellenic University, Thessaloniki. During the winter semester 2011-2012 he has served as Visiting Lecturer at the Institute for Finance and Tax Law of the University of Heidelberg, Germany. Since February 2014 he lectures accounting law at the National School of Judges, Thessaloniki.

Dr. Matsos was born in Veria, Greece in 1973. He has studied law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (LL.B., 1995). He has earned a Master’s degree in European Law from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium (LL.M., 1997) and a Doctoral degree in Tax Law from the University of Bayreuth, Germany (Dr. iur., 2001). He has performed post-doctoral research in the field of IAS at the Max-Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law in Munich, Germany (2004).

He is admitted at the Thessaloniki Bar since 1997 as Dikighoros (attorney-at-law in Greek law) at Areios Pagos (the Supreme Court of Greece) and is listed as a Professional Representative at the European Patent Office.

Besides Greek, his native language, he has working experience in German, English and French and possesses restricted knowledge of Italian and Dutch. From 2006 until 2009 he was a member of the Editorial Board of the Law Review "Armenopoulos". He is the author of many publications in tax law and in other areas of business law and has been an invited speaker in many domestic and international congresses.

Among his other activities, he consulted the Greek Government on the harmonisation of the Greek legislation with the Directive 2003/51/EC and created the Law Draft, which served as basis for the harmonising Greek Law no. 3487/2006.
